Nicola Zorzi is an opera director. His projects include multi-media installations, spectacular formats, and productions for theme parks.

 

He embarks on a course of study that embraces the research of the image, animated by a passion for photography, scenography and light to land in theater direction.

 

After academic training with a degree in Theatre Studies at Bologna University, he obtained a master's degree in scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Verona.

 

He trained as an assistant director at the Arena di Verona, gaining a decade of experience in the creation and management of outdoor shows.

He works in the main Italian and foreign theaters collaborating with prestigious directors such as Graham Vick, Robert Carsen, Hugo de Ana, Pier’Alli, Gigi Proietti, Giuliano Montaldo, Giorgio Gallione, Marco Gandini, Denis Krief.

He undertook a long collaboration with Franco Zeffirelli, directing renewals and new productions of Aida, Don Giovanni, Tosca, Carmen, Madama Butterfly, Trovatore and Turandot.

For the Teatro alla Scala he directed the revival of the historical Aida of 1963 at the Seoul Art Center and the inaugural Aida of the 2006 at the Guangzhou Opera House.

 

He has debuted as director with Lucia di Lammermoor at the Tirana Opera House. Later he directed for this theater the mise-en-scènes of Turandot, Rigoletto and Norma.

Important new productions follow such as Rigoletto, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Macbeth, Nabucco, Madama Butterfly.

 

He has been teacher and director at LTL Opera Studio at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa with a new production of Les Contes d'Hoffmann (Theaters of Pisa, Livorno, Lucca and Novara).

He is co-director with Quirino Conti in Il Matrimonio segreto, costumes by Piero Tosi, at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto.

 

He improves the knowledge of the languages, exploring different artistic forms and the potential of technologies that are the basis of his recent multidisciplinary experiences for theme parks and theatrical performances.

 

Under the artistic direction of Emir Kusturica he directs Magna Grecia, the myth of the origins, an historical-epic drama. The show inaugurated Arena Sinni, a stage space that boasts a hyper-technological multimedia system.

 

Since 2019 a new artistic collaboration with Movieland Park has started. It is the first Italian movie-themed park, for which he designs and stages innovative spectacular formats. Theming, innovation and storytelling are the foundations of his work on stage and the design of new attractions.

In 2021 the Park inaugurated the Holmes Hotel. Inspired by the life of the first American serial killer H.H. Holmes. It is an immersive journey, of multi-sensory rooms, for which he took care of the design, lighting, special effects and direction of the actors.
